Sharon Shmuely (SEIN) won the ‘best clinical research award’ for her presentation on 'Motor phenomena in vasovagal syncope: clinical and electrophysiological aspects and a comparison with convulsive seizures'.

Pascal Bielefeld (SILS-CNS, University of Amsterdam) won the ‘best basic/pre-clinical science research award’ on the topic ‘Regulation of hippocampal neural stem cell fate after kainic acid-induced status epilepticus by miR-124 and miR-137: a possible new therapeutic target?’.

The theme of this year’s meeting on the 28th of January 2016 was ‘Neuroimaging in epilepsy’. Young scientists/PhD students were strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for a datablitz and poster presentation. Tim Veersema (Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht) won the ‘best clinical research award’ for his presentation on '7 tesla MRI in the pre-surgical evaluation of 36 patients with focal epilepsy'. Cato Drion (Universiteit van Amsterdam) won the ‘best basic/pre-clinical science research award’ on the topic ‘Effects of rapamycin in a rat model for temporal lobe epilepsy. Is mTOR inhibition anti-epileptogenic?’. The theme of the Midwinter Meeting 2015 was ‘Mechanisms of epileptogenesis and potential treatment targets’. The meeting was held on the 11th of March 2015 in the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.

During the midwinter meeting, the Harry Meinardi proefschriftprijs 2015 has been awarded. This year the award went ex aequo to dr. Hilde Braakman and Dr. Martin Vaessen. The intensive cooperation between the two candidates took the jury that the theses assessed for a "golden combination" and has provided important insights into the development of cognitive disorders in children with epilepsy. The award was made available by the Epilepsiefonds.

All young scientists/PhD students were strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for a datablitz and poster presentation. Tim Veersema (Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht), won the best clinical research award. Valentina Iori (Academic Medical Center Amsterdam), won the best basic science research award.
